Pieces of lapilli from Etna

Etna is active again and regularly blows big fountains of lava and ash out of the south east crater. The activity is not continuous and happens unexpectedly, offering spectacular views from the terrace of our house. Over the last 12 years we have had little disturbance from these eruptions, although this time ash was falling from the sky, even in bigger chunks, and driving a car needed attention due to slippery roads because of the volcanic ash!

As Clara just started skiing, we drove up the mountain with family to see what the conditions were at the ski station. Arriving at Monte Conca, the view was spectacular and we could see mainland Italy with the mountain range in Calabria. Unfortunately the snow was covered with ash and most probably we will have to wait for the next season to go skiing…
