Pruning in April!

Abandoned old vines

Just before leaving to Paris for the presentation of Les Vins S.A.I.N.S. (see previous post), I discovered a plot of 70+ year old vines which was not pruned, above our ungrafted Chiusa Spagnolo vineyard. Checking who the owner might be, I discovered it was family of one of my workers!
It didn’t take long to agree on a rent and so we are working ourselves into trouble again (as usual…) with another new plot, pruning some two months later than normal… but better to prune late than leave the vines un-pruned as this would mean losing production for at least 2 years. And we will have great grapes for our Contadino 2013!
